street frontage of office design for a large national transportation company

CapitAl Transport Headquarters

Located in an industrial estate in Clayton this new, state-of-the-art Melbourne headquarters for a national transportation company, Capital Transport, looks to set itself apart from the rest with a dynamic workplace design that has all the modern amenities and a focus on its teams wellbeing.

This expanding business had outgrown its workspaces and had begun to rent additional facilities after the original office became inadequate to cope with the companies scale & demand. The brief was to create a new building that would consolidate the entire Melbourne operation into one location, whilst showcasing the company as a leader and innovator in its field. The building’s form incorporates rounded curves, bold forms, and futuristic nuances to reflect the companies’ progressive nature and make a strong statement on the street.

The design provides ample room to house the companies growing operations with 4 levels and over 3300m2 of floor area, the new Melbourne base has the ability to host up to 200 staff comfortably and facilitate company growth.

Special attention was given to sustainability to ensure the office could adapt for the long term. Part of this initiative was prioritizing employees’ and visitors’ comfort, health, and wellbeing whilst onsite. Extensive landscaping, rooftop communal gardens & internal green spaces are integrated throughout and play a large role in filtering air and improving mood around the workplace – both in and outside. A variety of flexible open plan work areas and break-out spaces provide options for enhanced networking and collaborative teamwork, with options for quieter, more intimate spaces for confidential meetings and the like. Expansive double-glazed & tinted windows and doors alongside louver systems provide ample natural ventilation and temperature control, while the solar farm on the roof supports the company to reduce emissions, running costs and increase energy efficiencies throughout the complex.

Being a transport company, the new building would need to attend with frequent vehicle movement and car park traffic daily around the site. Therefore, the approach was taken to ensure all transport activity was located at ground level for easy access in and out of the premises, and pedestrian navigation and office space is located in the two floors above – providing a separation from noise and ensuring better safety for both vehicles and people.
