On first impressions the dynamic façade stands boldly in Arthur St streetscape, drawing in the eye. Each dwelling mirrors the other, creating a cohesive mass when viewed together, whilst exposed rendered linear elements define the residences as separate entities. Created to protect its underlying forms with a shield of blackened battened timber screening which arches around the floor to ceiling glazed openings, the frontage provides protection from the street & harsh afternoon sun whilst still providing transparency in between.    

Internally, a sophisticated monochromatic material palette uses a combination of warm neutrals with charcoal shades and plenty of texture from polished concrete floors and seamless tactile ‘slate’ look cabinetry, with pale oak inside, to present a palette that will offer timeless interiors that can be easily customized according to individual taste and style. Curvature on the façade is carried through to the inside of the homes, with entry walls & joinery repeating these organic shapes, softening harder edges, encouraging natural flow, and assisting occupants to move easily about the open plan zones. A monolithic charcoal island bench is offset by a thin folded metal staircase. Playing with weight in space, each presents a minimal & sculptural sentiment as you navigate the various zones, tying in with the overall scheme of light and shade.  

A key design feature was the integration of a lap pool that runs the length of each abode. A large, glazed window greets you upon entry, showcasing this aspect from the moment you open the front door. The implementation of a water component that can be viewed throughout the downstairs spaces ensures the homes can connect to the fluidity and natural, calming feel the pool provides, from the entrance all the way to the courtyard.

A bonus garage & multi-purpose space separate to the main dwelling located at the back of the courtyard affords residents with the opportunity for secure off-street parking from the rear laneway or the ability to convert the room into a studio or workspace.
